attack: sofia, cathy, the misshapes
"Marie Antoniette" is not out until the middle of October, but the critics are already reviewing it and not in a good, favorable way. One of the first reviews I've read so far is from the New Yorker, which explains in details the life story of the "teen" queen. According to Judith Thurman of the New Yorker, Sofia Coppola is:
"... a fashion celebrity and muse, who helps to publicize the work of designer friends by wearing it with the teasing glamour of a jaded virgin playing dress-up in her mother’s clothes."
Ouch. Read rest of the story here.
-----
Apparently, Cathy's article on the MisShapes was not completely correct. She wrote that one member of the hipster trio has influenced the hairstyles of Hedi Slimane's latest collection, but Hedi is opposed to this, saying:
"...Ms. Horyn's reporting seems not to be based on fact and it makes me question what's behind it...I think you guys (MisShapes) are good for New York nightlife, but I am sorry to say the show was not about you."
Ouch.

Look of Day 5
I have been trying really hard to feature day wear in my posts, since most of them were about dresses and evening wear. After careful consideration and extensive browsing for day wear clothes, Narciso delivered.
Wouldn't be nice if all professional women wore suits such as this one? Narciso always presents quiet sexiness with impeccable eye for design detail. And just look at that slim elongated cylinder shaped cut above the closure (study the close up photo). It definitely shows some skin, but in such a discreet way which is pure him, pure Narciso. Love the slick feel to it.
Narciso Rodriguez. Look 21.

radiance
Kate looked very refreshing, happy and was simply glowing at Another Magazine dinner. She looked stunning in an all black outfit and pulled hair. Love it.

some humor, please
There are so many shows, so many parties that we forget to sit down and relax. Therefore, indulge in some humorous blogging, done by Robin Givhan of the Washington Post. Robin tells stories and expresses direct opinions from the shows, parties and anything that has to do with fashion week. Who else can tell you that people carry animals in strollers at parties?! Robin can.

the party
So, Kate Moss is in town. Hmm. For Another Magazine dinner and party. Hmm.
Does this mean that this party will be the party to be at? Yes.
Does this mean that we can't wait to see what she is going to wear? Yes.
Invitations anyone?

can a fashion party be quiet?
Residents of Gramercy Park are being concerned about loud music. One night won't do damage, or will it? The PR department at Marc Jacobs should be asked.

Look of Day 3
After observing an invasion of tent and no waist line dress,a little off-shoulder, origami-style neckline dress is a gift. I love the middle twist, which looks like an abstract bow.

Rag & Bone, a design duo from North Carolina showed us some easy to wear, mix and wash clothes. And I absolutely have nothing against that. We are in America, and the majority will be happy with this collection. I also think the buyers won't be hesitant to give big orders since it is such a pure, rational collection. Nothing too special, nothing that we haven't seen. There was an occasional Thom Browneism in menswear, which was interesting to see because it was more roughly done. A look I loved: simple, white, tee shirt dress paired with an eggshell trench coat and men's pointy white shoes. It is all in the shoes.
Also, the presence of Anna Wintour at the show would certainly help this design duo. Meaning, it's been approved.

predictions
These are the top colors that designers have chosen from Pantone.
I am afraid to say that I am little bit dissapointed with the top choice which is light pink, because I honestly am tired of pink and flowers.
Very glad that gray is favored at #2.
I am wondering if purple is still going to be strong as it was in the fall. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

real or unreal
Although we live in a world of constant fear from terrorism, natural disasters and what not, the luxury industry shows no signs of slowing down. Barnard Arnault, one of the kings of the luxury business and chairman of LVMH announced today that net profit for the first half of the year increased 46%.
Second category of biggest sales after timepieces was cosmetics and perfumes because of new skin care introductions such as Dior Capture total starring Sharon Stone. Now, this is slightly upsetting. Are they telling us that yes, celebrities are driving sales more than models or simply it's new, people want it? Considering all this media fuss about supermodels comeback, how celebrities are going to get replaced with models (proof: Daria at Lancome) and people's need to fantasize about looks, how true is all that?

the comeback
I've always been a big fan of the Barney's mailers, but last spring they got even more exciting. It featured a cheesy crime story with the ever gorgeous Malgosia Bela. They named the main character, Sylvia and dressed her in corresponding clothes to each scene. The result: not your typical-boring-standing-next-to-a-wall mailer. I loved and still keep it.
Well, Sylvia is back this fall and as explained by Simon Doonan, creative director of Barney's "the consumer is tired of looking at pictures of gals in frocks. They want a bit of drama and some backstory, maybe even a murder or two." I could not agree more.
In the spring Sylvia was a girl about town, who got married and then got arrested for killing her husband. This fall, she emerges as an aspiring actress but soon enough she needs to go into hiding where she is rescued by a prince, gets famous fast, but leaves Hollywood and leads a peaceful life in Africa with her four kids and husband. Its inspiration came from "Valley of the Dolls" and "Mildred Pierce", but Doonan explains that "it was time we did our own rags-to-riches melodrama." Notice the humorous lines.
Enjoy the wonderful story shot by Terry Tsiolis, art direction by Suzi Jones and fashion editing by the ever famous Julie Gilhart. I also apologize for the quality of some photos--my scanner does not work.

north star
New photographer alert in the city. A good one, I promise.
Canadian Geoff Berrenger has a stellar portfolio with great clients such as the ever famous Canadian retailier Holt Renfrew and some killer models in the likes of Julia Dunstall. I love his still photographs for which he has a very keen eye. Notice how well the iconic Iman corresponds with his style. Stunning. Want it. Check him out.

scarlett, the designer
Tara Subkoff and pal/Imitation of Christ model, Scarlett Johansson are going to present their first jewlery line at Fashion Week. I am very curious to see what is this going to look like because I find that Scarlett and Tara have different looks and tastes. But then opposites attract, right?
